Philippe Starck was so impressed by the work of the German student, Roland Kreiter, that he telephoned Alberto Alessi, the C.E.O. of the Italian manufacturer Alessi, and urged him to produce it. (Starck also hired Kreiter as an intern in his office.) By coincidence, Kreiter’s design, My Squeeze, is a juicer. And one of the products that made Starck famous is the now-iconic Juicy Salif, the gangly three-legged objet that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
